• EARLY DISMISSAL ON DECEMBER 21; WINTER BREAK DECEMBER 22 - JANUARY 6 School will be dismissed early on Friday, December 21.  Early dismissal times are as follows:  C.R. Hanna at 2:02 p.m., Orion Middle School at 2:08 p.m., and Orion High School at 2:15 p.m.  School will not be in session on Monday, December 24, through Friday, January 4, due to Winter Break.  School will resume on Monday, January 7.  We wish everyone Happy Holidays!

  • TOWN HALL MEETING TO DISCUSS CROTEGA THREAT SUPPRESSION SYSTEM The Orion Community Unit School District #223 will host a town hall meeting to discuss possible security upgrades.  There will be a meeting on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Orion Middle School, to discuss the possible installation of a Crotega Threat Suppression System in each of the district's three buildings.  The meeting will be held 6:00 p.m. through 7:30 p.m.  Representatives from Crotega will be present to answer any questions.  Questions may also be sent to Superintendent Blessman (jblessman@orionschools.us) prior to the meeting date.  Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.

  • C.R. HANNA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RECEIVES EXEMPLARY DESIGNATION The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released C.R. Hanna Elementary School's annual School Report Card on October 31, 2018.  The Report Card shows how well C.R. Hanna is progressing on a wide range of educational goals. The State Board has identified C.R. Hanna Elementary School as an “Exemplary” school. The designation means that C.R. Hanna is performing in the top 10% of all schools statewide.  The rating is based on several data points, which include the 2018 PARCC scores, chronic absenteeism, and student growth. C.R.   • ILLINOIS 5ESSENTIAL SURVEY Orion Community Unit School District #223 will join the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the seventh statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. The survey provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. From November 15 through January 18, students and teachers will be asked to take a 25 -minute research-based survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in their school’s learning environment. The parent survey supplement will be administered from October 23 through January 18. These surveys will serve as an opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide implementation.
