OHS Students Excel In the 2017 School Year

Congratulations to the following students and groups for their achievements during the 2017-18 school year.



Volleyball - Congratulations for receiving AVCA Team Academic Award. To achieve the award, high school volleyball teams must displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. The volleyball team also finished 2nd in the State last fall.

Ellie Johnson - Was named the Area Career Center Student of the Month (August) for the Manufacturing Technology II course. This course is part of an innovative two-year pre-engineering program in which students experience manufacturing processes first-hand. Some of the training is conducted on-site at John Deere Harvester Works plant and students receive training on current production machines and equipment from experienced workers.

Cole Lievens - Was named the Area Career Center Student of the Month (August) for the Welding I course. This two-year program provides instruction in common welding processes including oxy-acetylene, brazing, soldering, electric arc, MIG and TIG as well as in the preparation and layout of different welding joints, the care or expansion, contraction and stressing of metals, and the operation, care and repair of welding equipment.

Cole Lievens - For the second time, Cole was named the Area Career Center Student of the Month (September) for the Welding I course. James Schnerre - Was named the Area Career Center Student of the Month (September) for the Manufacturing Technology II course. Tyler Battin - Was named the Area Career Center Student of the Month (September) for the Law & Public Safety course. This is a two-year program designed to prepare students to enter into the fields of law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Instruction includes the history of law enforcement and the legal system, report writing, record keeping, criminal investigation techniques, and routine police procedures.

Quinn Sunderbruch - Was named the Building Trades I student of the month for November.  This course is part of a  two-year program providing experiences in all phases of the construction industry.  The major course project – building a house – allows students to engage in concrete work, carpentry, roofing, tin work, tile work, and painting.

Illinois State ScholarsThirteen OHS seniors have been named Illinois State Scholars.  They are Jared Abbott, Breslin Crose, Dean Farwell, Kelly Jacobson, Ava Lawson, Claire Lodge, Alexandra Mack, Lauren Matson, Drew Minas, Jolee Mohr, Abby VanDuyne, Bethany Zmuda, and Daimon Zurcher.  This recognition goes to approximately the Top 10% of students in the state based on a student’s SAT score and their GPA. Congratulations to everyone!

Cross Country All-Conference: Congrats to Marynn Bollinger and Alexandra Mack who were named 1st Team All-Conference.


Football All-State  – Congratulations to Logan Lee who was named 1st Team All-State by the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association.


Football Academic All-State - Congrats to Jeffrey Holbrook, Logan Lee, and Sam West were named to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Academic All-State Team
