Most Valuable Teacher Award:  Julie Doxstader, Third Grade Teacher at C.R. Hanna Elementary School, is the first recipient of the Most Valuable Teacher Award from the Wilderness Classroom Organization.  She received the award at their annual celebration on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.  Mrs. Doxstader was selected because of her outstanding work with the Wilderness Classroom project for the past decade.

 

Fifth Grade Teachers:  Christina Carlson, Jennifer Maertens, Jenny Redell, Robin Tuttle - We would like to recognize the Fifth Grade students and teachers for their hard work during the Second Annual American Wax Museum Night at C.R. Hanna Elementary School.  Students memorized information about famous Americans while they collected over $900.  The students will vote on the organization the funds will be donated to.  Congratulations!!!

 

Years of Service - Each August the District recognizes employees for their years of service to the Orion School District.  Recognition is made in five year increments.  This year's employees who were recognized for their years of service include:

10 Years:  Stacey Burgert, Teacher; Beth Galliart, Teacher; Irv Linn, Bus Driver; Alyce McConaghy, Teacher; Natalie Nimrick, Teacher; Tina Poel, Teacher

15 Years:  Denise Lund, Teacher; Todd Rittenhouse, Teacher; Cindy Sibley, Teacher; Marcy Wegerer, Teacher

25 Years:  Linda Anderson, Teacher; Rhonda Cox, Teacher; Shelly Johnson, Teacher; Barb Norton, Teacher

30 Years:  Jan Neeld, Bus Driver

 

OMS/OHS Agriculture Teacher Jay Solomonson - Jay Solomonson was recently named Teacher of the Year by the Illinois Association of Vocational Agricultural Teachers.  Mr. Solomonson's first step was to be nominated for the District award, in which he won.  The next step was the state level where five letters of recommendation were sent to the IAVAT selection committee on Mr. Solomonson's behalf.  At least one letter had to be submitted from a student, a teacher, an administrator, and a community member.  Finally, through an interview process including Mr. Solomonson and Principal Nathan DeBaillie, Mr. Solomonson was named the Association's Teacher of the Year.
