SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONThe School Board
Election for Orion Community Unit School District #223 will be held on Tuesday,
April 4, 2017. Three seats on the seven-member Board of Education will be
filled at the April 4 election. All three seats will serve four-year
terms expiring in April 2021. School board elections are nonpartisan and
board candidates do not indicate a political party affiliation.Membership of the board
of education is restricted to a maximum of three members from any congressional
township. The three seats with terms expiring in April 2017 are from the

NEW BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERThe Board of Education, at the January 18, 2017, Orion
Board of Education meeting, approved the appointment of Brandon M. Cooper to
fill the vacant Board of Education member position, effective immediately. Mr. Cooper will fill the vacant position until
the next consolidated election to be held on April 4, 2017. The vacant Board of Education member position
was the result of long-time Orion Board of Education member, Dwayne Anderson’s,
resignation on December 14, 2016. We
welcome Mr. Cooper to the Orion Board of Education and thank him for serving
our school district!

teachers and parents across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in
the fourth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is
designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s

the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s

OMS LEGO ROBOTICS NEWSOn December 3, 2016, our OMS Lego Robotics teams competed against other area Quad-Cities' teams at John Deere headquarters in Moline. They were judged in the following areas: core values, a problem and solution presentation, robot design, and robot programming. The 6th Grade Team, "Lego Lords", had an awesome "rookie team" showing! They did very well in all categories and will be a force to be reckoned with in the future! The 7th and 8th Grade Team, "Yellow Brick Road", received the Champion's Award for being the overall best team at the competition in their qualifying group and were selected to advance to the state level.
