ALICE Drills

As you know, SAFETY is very important, and we have been committed to providing the safest possible environment for our students.

Over the past several years, we have seen an increase in school violence. Like other schools across the country, we have responded to these

incidents with a method called ALiCE. It will be our preferred method for dealing with an unauthorized person who enters the school buildings or grounds.

What does ALiCE mean?

  1. Alert We will get the word out using clear concise language and describe the location of the event.

  2. Lockdown This is still a good starting point. We will continue to lock down students in secure areas

  3. inform Continually communicate to staff and students so they can make good decisions.

  4. Counter Apply skills to barricade, and if necessary, distract, confuse and gain control.

  5. Evacuate Escape into a safe area whenever possible.

In NO WAY are we asking or teaching our students or staff to make any attempt to get involved with the situation. Training emphasizes the best way to escape the situation.

We will teach our students and staff in the event an intruder leaves their secure area they;

  1. Listen carefully to the location and type of event.

  2. Get to and/or remain in a secure area until it is safe to evacuate.

  3. As soon as it is safe, evacuate.

Orion School District seeks to provide a safe environment for your children and limit risks that might impact them. We know this is not a comfortable topic to discuss.

However, the more we talk about this and prepare our children, we are able to respond to a crisis if it should ever arise.

If you require more information, please contact your school's principal.
