OHS Student Council has been busy over the past few weeks raising funds for the Orion Food Panty and Orion Christmas for Kids! Students were able to assist in the organization for the Christmas for kids program and help provide over 90 Orion students smiles around Christmas season!

Congratulations to Delaney Tapscott as we honored her today after school as she signed her National Letter of Intent! Delaney will be continuing her Volleyball career at Carl Sandburg in Galesburg! Good luck to her and the Chargers these next 2yrs!

What an awesome busy night last night at the OHS Girls Basketball game! Not only did we have an amazing turnout for the Brantley Francis Foundation fundraiser but we honored our future Chargers at youth night! Thank you all who came and supported! The girls basketball team raised about $3,000 that will be donated to the foundation!

On Wednesday, The Gray Matters Collective invited Chef Greenwood to teach members about the relationship between food and mental health. The club then learned how to make healthy, delicious smoothies for breakfast before the school day started.

Amazing performance by the OHS Band and Choir students during their winter concert. Always fun to see alumni participate in the annual performance of the Carol of the Bells.

It can be hard to get through 40 minutes of a 19th century text (especially when there are only nine days left in the semester), but puzzles, coloring books, and Legos make it a little bit easier. Mrs. Kershaw's Intro to Lit students are analyzing the iconic Ebenezer Scrooge for the next few days.

The OHS Girls Basketball “Shooting for Childhood Cancer Night!” Each year 100% of the proceeds is donated to a local charity. This year the senior girls chose a local non-profit, The Brantley Francis Foundation. BFF provides kids with cancer, bags full of goodies to help make their time in hospitals a little easier. OHS Student Council has been busy making tie blankets for local organizations! If anyone has large pieces of fleece and would like to donate to the schools student council, please contact the school office!

Due to the winter forecast expected later today, tonight's Girls Basketball game at Mercer County and Freshman Boys Basketball game at Orion have been cancelled for the evening. We are looking at dates to reschedule both events. Thank you!

OHS students had the opportunity to explore careers through virtual reality this morning.

Bake Sale tonight (Monday) during the high school boys 10/32 Orion Tip-Off Classic Basketball Tournament. The Bake Sale starts at 5pm. Come out to help support the Orion Food Pantry and Orion Area Christmas for Kids. Sponsored by the Orion Transportation Dept. and OHS Student Council

Next week kicks off the Orion 10&32 Tip Off Classic for both our Varsity and JV Boys Basketball teams. Monday and Tuesday JV games will be played at the OMS and Varsity Games will be played at OHS. The rest of the week all games will be played at OHS. Cost to get in is $5 for adults and $3 your Orion pass will not be valid. You may purchase a tournament pass for the week which are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Hope to see every here for an exciting week of Basketball!

Congratulations to Mason Hock who has been named the OHS Student of the Month for November. Mason was selected by the faculty and staff of Orion High School due to his responsibility, leadership and integrity within the classroom. Take some time and get to know this outstanding student.
What did one of Mason's teachers have say about him?
When some students can be unmotivated about the process of learning, Mason has always been excited and ready to learn. He has a huge heart, and has never had a late or missing assignment. He is also an incredibly resilient and optimistic student even when things might be challenging. He’s also incredibly caring and once drew Abraham Lincoln as SpongeBob for me when I was having a hard time just to bring a smile to my face.

Congratulations to our 9th grade students who earned Rising Star Awards from ACT due to their academic performance on the Pre-ACT 8. Last night the OHS Student Council was awarded the Mission Challenge Award for its efforts in our Student Hunger Drive. This is an award given to the school that demonstrated the most drive and devotion to the cause. Our school district also placed 2nd in our division for bringing in 16, 627 pounds of food for local families, which is the second highest amount we've ever collected as a district. We would like to thank the community for all of their generous donations, and we couldn't be prouder of the work our student leaders put into this effort!
